16% increase in page views

TL;DR

We introduced the first AI feature, quick summary, to mobile to help users understand their content at a glance. This feature increased page views by 16%. In addition, I created reusable patterns and components that now support future AI features in the Confluence Mobile design system.

The challenge

Current experience
Confluence pages are often lengthy and dense—which is not ideal for on-the-go consumption. Mobile users spend just 1 minute and 35 seconds per session. How might we help them grasp the gist faster?
Hypothesis
If we generate a ‘quick summary’ of a page for mobile users,
Then we will increase engagement and retention with Confluence content,
Because users will more quickly understand the page’s intent and take action.

Design exploration

AI summary entry point
I led a collaborative design process to find the right balance between visibility and non-intrusiveness on both iOS and Android.
💡 Decision
I placed the summary button in the top nav bar, which is minimal, persistent and easily reachable.

Final design

We shipped a clean and platform-appropriate solution for both Android and iOS.
